Connect
Copy the address from the Connect card on the Overview page. In Valheim, go to Start Game > Start, open Join Game and choose Join IP. Enter the address with the game port. You will then be asked for the password, which is in Server Password in Settings > Startup.
With crossplay on, the Console page also prints a join code, which is how Xbox players join.
Upload a world
A world is two files that belong together: YourWorld.db and YourWorld.fwl. You need both. On Windows they are usually in %userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds_local.
- Stop the server and take a backup on the Backups page.
- On the Files page, upload both files to
.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/worlds_local. - Set World Name in Settings > Startup to the name of the files, without the extension.
- Start the server.
Mods
Valheim mods use BepInEx and go in BepInEx/plugins, and every player needs the same ones. The standard start command does not load BepInEx by itself, so open a ticket before you try to install mods.
Make yourself an admin
Find your Steam ID (the long number starting 7656119). Add it on its own line in this file, then restart:
.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/adminlist.txt
You can then open the in-game console with F5 and use admin commands such as kick and ban.
Where the settings are
All of these are in Settings > Startup:
- Server Name, Server Password and World Name. The password needs at least five characters and must not appear in the server name, or the server will not start.
- Public Server: turn this off to hide the server, so people can only join by IP.
- Enable Crossplay and Auto Update.
- Backup Interval and Backup Count: the game's own world saves, separate from the Backups page.
