Connect
Copy the address from the Connect card on the Overview page. In TF2, turn on the developer console in the game's options, open it with the ~ key and run:
connect your-address:port
Your server needs a Steam token to be listed publicly. Create one at Steam game server accounts with App ID 440, then paste it into the Steam setting in Settings > Startup.
Add maps
Upload .bsp map files to tf/maps on the Files page. To start on one, put its name without .bsp into Default Map in Settings > Startup.
Install plugins
TF2 plugins use SourceMod, which needs MetaMod underneath it. Download both for Linux from their official sites and unpack them into tf, so that you end up with a tf/addons folder.
Plugins are .smx files and go in tf/addons/sourcemod/plugins. Restart the server after installing.
Make yourself an admin
With SourceMod installed, add this line to tf/addons/sourcemod/configs/admins_simple.ini, using your own Steam ID:
"STEAM_0:1:12345678" "99:z"
Restart the server, or run sm_reloadadmins in the Console. You can then open the admin menu with sm_admin in the game console.
Where the settings are
- Settings > Startup: default map and Steam token.
-
tf/cfg/server.cfg: server name, password and other server commands. Create the file if it is not there, and restart after changing it. - Backups: take a copy before big changes, if your plan includes backups.
- Network: the address and ports your server uses.
