Connect
Your first start can take a while because the map has to generate. Wait until the Console page shows the server is running.
Copy the address from the Connect card on the Overview page. In Rust, press F1 and run:
client.connect your-address:port
Your server should also appear in the in-game server browser, but this can take time.
Upload a map or save
For a custom map, use the Custom maps page. Upload a .map file and pick it, and we host it for your server.
To bring over an existing world, stop the server and upload its .map and .sav files into server/rust on the Files page. If you changed Server Identity, use that name instead of rust. The World Size and World Seed settings must match the map.
Install plugins
Rust plugins need Oxide or Carbon, which you choose with Modding Framework in Settings > Startup. Once one is set, a Plugins page appears, where you can install from uMod.
You can also upload a .cs file to oxide/plugins or carbon/plugins on the Files page. It loads straight away and the Console prints Loaded plugin. Its settings then appear in the matching config folder.
Make yourself an admin
Open the Owners tab on the Players page and add your 17 digit Steam ID. Or run this in the Console while the server is running:
ownerid 7656119XXXXXXXXXX "YourName" "Owner"
server.writecfg
Where the settings are
- Settings > Server Config: the main Rust settings.
- Settings > Startup: name, description, world size, world seed and framework. Changing the size or seed creates a new map and wipes the terrain and everything built on it.
- Settings > Wipe: wipe the map, blueprints or both, now or on a schedule.
- Live Map: see the map and players in your browser.
